With tears in her eyes she hugged each and every one of us and said, “Thank you so much for the gift, it is the only Christmas present that I will receive this year!” This month’s Laundry Love was a fantastic celebration of children! The children eagerly lined up to play Plinko with the always-friendly Grinch, placed the disc in one of the slots and watched it drop. Jumping up and down while screaming out a number in hopes that it wouldn’t land in the Grinch spot; otherwise, they would be dancing with the singing Christmas Tree. The result of the game earned each player a bag of goodies; a white bag decorated by children from Family Worship Center, filled with treats such as candy canes, chips, pretzels, popcorn, oranges, and Taffy’s popcorn balls and fresh taffy. Next, each child got to tell Santa Claus what they wanted for Christmas and the elves (STEAM Punks 4-H Club) quickly went to work locating a special package. They had many to choose from, as early in the week we had received a large donation of custom-made gift baskets. These were the most fantastic creations with themes like Superheroes, Mickey Mouse, fairy princess, Barbie, Star Wars and each overflowed with action figures, stuffed animals, stickers, books and so much more! It was a joy to watch the awe and wonder as each child was given a gift basket so large many were heard calling to parents or grandparents for help.
It didn’t take much encouragement for the adults to join in on the fun. They played Plinko with the Grinch, danced with the Christmas Tree, and met with Santa. To their surprise, they each received an overflowing gift basket. There were pampering sets with full-sized hygiene items, jewelry sets, and male-themed hygiene baskets. As the day ended, we were embraced by parents and thanked for the gifts for their children. However, we were overwhelmed with tears as several parents told us they appreciated the gift they received; it would be the only gift they would receive for Christmas. Christmas is the time we remember all that God has done for us and most importantly the gift of his son Jesus. Just as these parents, may we remember to express to God, our extreme gratefulness!
